Tutoring for winter sports athletes
WINTER 2023 - Due to high demand for private lessons, there will be very limited spaces in group lessons for athletes in 2023.
Winter sports athletes undertake the task of having to balance training, school work and normal teenage activities. While this is immensely rewarding and productive, it also poses a number of challenges. I have designed the following tutoring framework based on my experience of teaching athletes, with the goal of enabling students to use their time as effectively as possible.

I teach maths and all mainstream sciences up to year 12 or NCEA level 2 and chemistry, physics and all types of maths up to year 13 or NCEA level 3. Students are welcome (and encouraged) to have tutoring in more than one subject; the logistics and organisation are made easier when a student has a single tutor for several subjects.

Lessons usually last for two hours. We will often take a 5-minute break in the middle of the lesson to help to maintain concentration levels.

Students will usually have lessons in pairs or groups of three. Sometimes a student may end up having a lesson to themselves if no-one else books into that session!

Private sessions may be available for an extra cost, though there is less flexibility in their timing and cancellation conditions. Private sessions are subject to availability.

It is recommended that a student signs up for a constant number of 2-hour sessions each week. A student can allocate these to different subjects as required, and is welcome to change this allocation from one week to another. For example, a student who has four hours each week and generally has two hours of maths tuition plus two hours of science tuition, is welcome to have 4 hours of maths some weeks or 4 hours of science some weeks.
There are a number of time slots available, so if a student needs to miss a lesson one week, they can have an extra lesson the next week, subject to availability. If a student needs to miss a whole week, that is absolutely fine - please let me know as soon as possible when this is the case.
Below is a list of current session times. Lesson times may change subject to availability and demand. There are three spaces in each session and spaces are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. It is of course easier for everyone if a student tries to stick to the same times each week, but I realise that this is likely to be difficult to fit around training. There are a range of session times available, so if a student needs a different lesson time some weeks I will try my best to accomodate them, subject to availability.

There are also extra, alternative times available if a student needs to reschedule a lesson as a one-off and none of the scheduled times are suitable.

Several payment options are available.

If a group lesson is cancelled by the student on the day of the lesson, it will be rescheduled for another time, subject to availability. If the lesson cannot be rescheduled it will not be charged. If three lessons have been cancelled by the student at short notice, any further lessons cancelled at short notice will be charged.
