FAQs
-
What does tutoring cost? The rate is $89 per hour and $69 for 45 minutes for one-to-one and $57.50 per person per hour for a pair or group of three. All prices include GST.
-
Do I need to commit for a whole term or year?Students are welcome to book one or several lessons as a "one-off" or can have a lesson (or several lessons) each week and pay weekly. Weekly payments can be stopped at any time. "One-off" lessons may be scheduled subject to availability. However, the schedule is very busy so the best way to guarantee a space is to book a weekly lesson for the year.
-
If I have a lesson each week, does it need to always be at the same time?"A regular time is of course easier for both the students and the tutor, but if a student needs a different time for one week, needs a different time for several weeks or needs to change to a different regular time, our best efforts will be made to accommodate this, subject to availability.
-
I am primarily receiving tutoring for maths but would also like some help with a chemistry test next week. What are my options? You can either substitute your regular maths lesson for chemistry this week, do half chemistry and half maths this week, or buy an extra lesson as a one-off. Students are very welcome to ask a science question at any time during a maths lesson (or the other way around).
-
Is there a discount if I commit for an extended period and pay in bulk?Yes. 10 % discount on the hourly rate is applied when a block of 10 lessons to be used in 10 weeks is paid upfront.
-
Is there a discount if I want more than one hour a week /lessons for two or more siblings?Yes. If paying weekly, 5 % discount is applied to any weeks when 2 or more hours of lessons were used. If paying in bulk, 15 % discount is applied when payment is made upfront for 10 lessons to be used in 5 weeks.
-
What is the policy if I need to cancel a lesson on short notice? If a lesson is cancelled by the student or parent within 24 hours of the scheduled lesson time , payment will be taken. If more than 24 hours' notice of cancelation is provided, the lesson can be rescheduled, subject to availability. If the student is sick but is well enough to do the lesson via Zoom, the lesson will be done online.
-
I have paid upfront for 10 lessons and used some of them but circumstances have changed. Are the unused lessons refundable?Partly. Full price payment will be taken for the lessons that have been used and the difference will be refunded. You will have paid the full-price rate for the lessons the student has received.
-
I am a younger student studying pre-NCEA material. Can you help?I usually teach NCEA (or equivalent) material but every year I take a small number of year 9 and 10 students who are looking for extension work.
-
My friend would like to share my lessons. Is this possible? If you are the same year, same ability and doing the same subject, then yes! I will also check that parents of both students agree.
-
Are online lessons possible?Yes, I have been providing online lessons since 2018, usually to students who have moved away from Wanaka and wish to continue with tutoring. Online lessons are also available if a student is sick, cannot organise transport to tutoring, is temporarily away from Wanaka, and so on. Any student is welcome to have an online lesson at any time and no advance notice is required.
